FamiliesRock! Antones Aug. '06 Press Release

August 12, 2006
Austin, Tx
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FamiliesRock! Antones nightclub descending from their kid events to the legendary ‘home of the blues’ to prove their desire to rock harder and become a part of Austin’s renowned Live Music scene. Families with kids are bored with traditional Family events and are taking back their lives to become a part of Austin’s exciting night life led by an innovative Rock n Roll resource for Families with kids ~ FamiliesRock.org is promoting and producing ‘shows kids can get in with parents’.

FamiliesRock! with Guy Forsyth at Antones on August 19, 2006 between 5:30pm and 7:30pm pursuing a residency with the club to showcase Austin’s greatest Live Music to Families with kids traditionally reserved for the over 21 crowd. ‘Parents Rock Free’, Kids $5, Teens $7, and Childless Adults $10 results in teens bringing parents to split costs, and parents opting out of child care to party like Rock Stars with their kids. ‘Parents Rock Free’ is an inventive endorsement of Families attendance resulting in an entire Family of five attending for less money ($15) than a childless couple of two adults ($20) keeping the audience Family centric without a large attendance of single adults or teens without parents.

FamiliesRock! produces Rock Shows using a light show, fog, video projection, glowsticks, flashlights, and more creating an environment so that kids get in with their parents on the dance floor. It’s not unusual to see Kid mosh pits, Granny headbanging, Grandpa groupies, Baby crowd surfing, Daddy air guitar, and the occasional Mama stage dive! “We are redefining Family through the universal language of music. We use the relevance of Rock n Roll to strengthen Families.” Comments Greg White, Dad.

Austin White (13) sets up and runs the light show; Kesley White (11) is responsible for getting the Families on the dance floor through basic arm leverage when she literally pulls kids and parents onto the floor (it doesn’t hurt that there is intentionally no seating); Sunny White (10) is an excellent meet and greeter at the door and helps coordinate the bands merchandise and autographs; and Mama Jenn White manages everything including adoption of the bands members to feed and nurture the lonely boys out on the road. This Band Mama also supports the music like no other during the show when she lets go with a swagger known only from a bygone term ‘Axl’. You can find Greg working everything from the technical design and implementation, video production and mix, and onstage emceeing and teaching lost fans how to generate the excitement needed to get the bands groove on and give us all a killer encore!

The founders and producers of FamiliesRock!, the barenakedfamily.com, are not nudists but designed their life differently than most living ‘With Less, For Family’. In May 2001 they traded Dad’s career and most of their possessions for worldly experience to live and travel full time in an RV. This decision to take back their Family developed into FamiliesRock.org. Goals of FamiliesRock! include getting Families out of their house and into the community to play together ultimately improving Family relationships and the strength of the modern Family. FamiliesRock.org is currently in Austin, Tx and working with other Families nationwide to expand the resource and events.

Dozens of Families, nightclubs and venues, local and touring bands, local and national businesses, and media outlets are supporting FamiliesRock! to maintain and grow the resource and events. Publicity, more venues, bands, and funding is still needed. Anyone can help as a volunteer, donation, sponsorship, or just simply spreading the word.
